Senior Systems Engineer

About the Role

The Senior Systems Engineer will be a core member of our technology team, responsible for supporting our global infrastructure, ensuring the performance, stability and scalability of our business. He or she will help maintain and operate a complex, multi-site International Equities and FX trading environment. The Systems Engineering team is responsible for the core physical and virtual enterprise infrastructure and most of the requisite supporting services, and provides tier-3 systems support to the other technology teams at Pragma leveraging this infrastructure.



  • Efficiently operate our systems infrastructure, maintaining industry leading SLAs
  • Continuous capacity monitoring, planning and performance tuning of our infrastructure
  • Effectively performing triage on concurrent incoming requests to ensure efficient resource utilization
  • Seamlessly executing upgrades to the infrastructure as necessary, maintain all operating systems to current patch levels, and ensuring continuous security monitoring and hardening of our systems
  • Optimize and automate routine tasks such as server builds
  • Working closely with other teams in designing, modeling, and implementing new technologies and solutions within the organization
  • Staying up to date on the latest technology and best-practices in order to make recommendations for improving and enhancing our product offerings and business efficiency
  • Participating in a weekly on call rotation
  • Ensuring that documentation, monitoring and analysis are done at the highest levels

In addition to the ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, and use experience and judgment to help accomplish shared team goals, the candidate must be a self-starter that can troubleshoot and resolve complex systems issues, and research new technologies with minimal supervision.


Required Experience

  • 7 – 10 years Linux Systems Engineering / Administration experience directly supporting mission critical applications
  • 5+ years working experience with VMWare ESX management as well as a working knowledge of other hardware and software-based virtualization technologies
  • 3+ years working experience with Continuous Configuration Automation (CCA) tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet or Terraform
  • The demonstrated ability to evaluate and digest a system’s environment and produce detailed and effective system diagrams and architecture documents
  • Exceptional scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python)
  • Extensive technical knowledge of Linux OS and network performance tuning
  • Solid experience managing JVM based applications
  • Up to date knowledge of the current systems security landscape, risks, and potential solutions
  • Very Strong organizational skills and some project management experience
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal


Preferred Experience

  • Experience administering Cisco UCS systems and infrastructure
  • Experience supporting Windows infrastructure (e.g. Active Directory, and DNS)
  • Experience with low latency techniques and technologies like kernel bypass, kernel tuning, RDMA, etc
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • NetApp storage administration experience
